About

Dr. Dan Melin is the founder of the Justice Fast. The Justice Fast was begun in 2019 as a collective fast to provide a contemporary, communal, and tangible embodiment of ancient practices: fasting, prayer and giving for the work of justice, righteousness, and acts of mercy. Dan introduced it to his home church, East End Fellowship and they have been practicing the Justice Fast every Lenten season since. In September of 2025 One Day One Step began using the Justice Fast for the forty-day period beginning the Monday after their annual Saturday service.
One Day, One Step is a multi-church collaboration that seeks racial healing for our city through corporate, intercessory prayer. The event includes a Service of Repentance and Healing that leads participants through a process of Lament, Repent and Forgive. With these prayers, we have hope that One Day, Richmond will be racially reconciled and healed. This day is One Step to seeing God’s will be done in Richmond as it is in Heaven (onedayrva.org).
The goal of Justice Fast RVA is to continue to expand the network of churches and individuals in the Richmond metropolitan area who share this passion for a greater embodiment of loving visible unity within the Church of Richmond.
Collectively Imaging God
Dan has also recently had a book published that traces the biblical and theological framework for God’s desire for his people to collectively embody his image or reputation in collective acts of love, mercy, righteousness and justice.
His book, Collectively Imaging God: Reimagining Biblical Economics is available on Amazon in paperback or e-book formats.
